Rugby, Cal vs Stanford, 30 Jan 2010

I parked in the lot at Bancroft and about Fulton, unsure of parking at the Rugby field & eager to walk up in the sun, taking lots of pictures on the way. Here's St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Bancroft.

This is a back wall of the Berkeley City Club.

The view from a plywood tunnel in front of a construction site... looking toward I-House & one of the cranes hovering over Memorial Stadium.

Ned's Bookstore, a decidedly yellow building.

Cafe Milano's interesting facade.

Bowles Hall, a male residence hall built in 1928.

A window into Memorial Stadium.

This window looks into an area that's going to be excavated in the renovation of the stadium.

I wanted to be sure to get some pictures of the dirt while it's still there.

This shot shows where this dirt is in the stadium: under Section W, at the Northern most edge of the stadium.

Such a gorgeous day. So glad I got out of the house for this little adventure.

When I got to the gate of Witter Rugby Field, the match was just starting & there was a pretty long line to get in. I was enjoying the walk & figured I'd see & hear a lot walking alongside the field, so I walked up Centennial Drive to this point.

There's a tiny creek coming down the hill behind the building that houses our Men's Golf offices. I heard it from the road & followed the sound.

This is a conversion after a try, analogous to the point after a touchdown in football... I can tell I'll need to learn a lot more about Rugby to take good pictures at games.

This has got to be a scrum.

Just before the end of the game, I realized the best pictures will be of one person carrying or passing the ball, such that the ball is actually visible. The rest is piles of men with no ball in sight. You just know it's in there.

With a final score of 99-0, there was certainly no question about our guys keeping the Scrum Axe.
